Kingswood borders land that is leased and mined by Martin Marietta Materials (MMM). Mining rock, sand and gravel uses equipment and processes that sometimes make sounds and vibrations that residents feel and hear at home, especially the blasts when dynamite is used to extract material.

The association has collected Martin Marietta's own frequently asked questions and independent research on the effects of blasting, including a white paper on blast vibrations, excerpts on blasting myths and on the effect of vibrations on structures, a U.S. Bureau of Mines study of long-term effects on housing, a map of the seismographs that measure blasts near Kingswood, the 2005 and 2008 statements of commitments from Martin Marietta, and the 2008 agreement between Kingswood and Martin Marietta.
